Lower Kinabatangan Basin & Tabin Wildlife Reserve - A wonderful 5 days wildlife viewing tour in Sabah

Duration : 5 Days 4 Nights

This wildlife tour of Sabah combines a safari to the famous Kinabatangan River, best known for its population of the endemic proboscis monkeys, with Tabin Wildlife Reserve, where you can enjoy jungle walks and bird watching.

Day 01 SEPILOK ORANGUTAN – SAFARI KINABATANGAN (L,D)
Pick up from hotels (Sabah Hotel or Sandakan Hotel) within Sandakan at 0800/0815 hrs or Sandakan Airport to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. At this world renowned center, come face to face with human’s closest relative, the Orangutans. The Orangutans feeding time is at 1000 hrs. Also experience a walk in the tropical lowland dipterocarp forest. At 1100hrs, depart Sepilok and proceed to Abai by boat. Late afternoon, we will bring you to a river cruise, in search of more wildlife. Dinner and night cruise to witness the nature of fireflies. Overnight: Abai Jungle Lodge.

Day 02 OXBOW LAKE - SAFARI KINABATANGAN (B,L,D)
Early morning, river cruise to Pitas oxbow lake to observe wildlife. After breakfast join tree planting project with locals and lunch at Abai Village. After lunch, cruise up river to Sukau village in search of primates especially proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Arrive Sukau, check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon river motorboat cruise to Menanggul River. Dinner and overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Night river cruise, to spot nocturnal animal, can be arranged with additional surcharge. Overnight: Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge.

Day 03 SUKAU - TABIN WILFLIFE RESERVE (B,L,D))
Early morning transfer to Lahad Datu (2hrs). On arrival, proceed to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road. Journey to this largest wildlife reserve in Malaysia takes about 1 hour. Upon arrival, check into charming timber bungalow, which comes complete with private balcony, air-condition and hot water shower. Enjoy the splendour of mother-nature and explore the vicinity of the resort. Built alongside the Lipad River and nestled within the rainforest, a variety of birds, insects and even small mammals can be sighted quite easily within the resort. In the afternoon, visit the Lipad mud volcano which serves as a mineral salt lick for wildlife. After trekking through the jungle for 20 minutes, arrive at the mud volcano known to be frequented by deer, bearded pigs, elephants and birds. Those adventurous enough can experiment with the effect of the volcanic mud, said to be responsible for a fine complexion. Walk up the observation tower and admire the contrasting landscape of the bare mud volcano area and its surrounding thick forest where birds are commonly sighted. After dinner, enjoy a slide presentation on Tabin's uniqueness, followed by a trip to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds. Overnight: Tabin Lodge/Chalet.

Day 04 TABIN WILDLIFE RESERVE (B,L,D)
You may opt to join the early morning bird walk (not included in package) as Tabin has a rich collection of about 300 bird species. After breakfast, trek through the lush green jungle known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad's Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy the refreshing splash coming down from the waterfall. Alternatively explore the surrounding vegetation or just relax. Overnight: Tabin Lodge/Chalet.
Day 05 TABIN WILDLIFE RESERVE - NEXT DESTINATION (B,L)
After breakfast, stroll to the nearby rock pool or river side where groups of macaques and other small mammals can sometimes be seen. Choose to take a dip in the river or simply listen to the sound of nature before saying good bye to Tabin. Fly back by light aircraft to Kota Kinabalu .
